Case Study 2

"kind of what I feel like I was meant to do."

Case Study

Shane Baz

Shane was a first-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.  He is a RHP with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Situation

Shane Baz was drafted in the first round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2017 MLB draft. The future was bright.

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired the right-handed pitching prospect as “a player to be named later” in the Chris Archer trade less than a year later.

At the time, Shane was not living up to his potential as a first-round draft pick. He was convinced it was because of his mechanics.

Solution

The first-rounder was struggling. Just before the 2021 season, a fellow player and client of Zone Motion contacted Shane and recommended that he get in touch with Buddy to resolve a few issues.

Shortly after, Buddy started working with Shane in his hometown in Houston, Texas.

Results

Shane went on to post his best season as a pro. He led all Minor League starting pitchers in strikeouts to walk ratio. The client and player who had recommended Buddy finished right beside him as the runner up.

On September 21, 2021, Shane made his Major League debut.  He could throw a baseball before he could walk, and now, on that day, the 22-year-old won his debut and said that it was “kind of what I feel like I was meant to do.”  Shane finished out the season in the Major Leagues, and the Rays won all three of his starts.
